Market overview

Why Vietnam?

Diversifying supply chains, opening up new markets, strengthening international competitiveness: Vietnam has developed into a major production location and economic partner in Asia. For companies that already invest, produce or purchase in China, the country offers the opportunity to broaden their Asia strategy.

01

China+1: strategically diversifying supply chains

An additional location broadens the supplier base, creates production capacity and reduces dependence on individual countries. Established industry clusters in electronics, textiles, footwear and furniture make it easier to build complementary structures. Vietnam does not have to replace China, it can become a second pillar of your activities in Asia.

02

Internationally connected: free trade and the EVFTA

Since the Đổi Mới reforms of 1986, Vietnam has developed into an internationally integrated economy and is closely linked to major economic areas through numerous free trade agreements, including RCEP, CPTPP and the EVFTA with the EU. The EVFTA has been in force since August 2020 and provides for the gradual removal of tariffs, subject to the applicable rules of origin.

03

Growing domestic market

With more than 100 million inhabitants, rising incomes, urbanisation and a growing middle class, Vietnam is also attractive as a sales market, above all in the economic centres of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. For German companies, the country can be both a production location and a sales market.
